Don Schlitz, J. Fred Knobloch and Thom Schuyler began performing together in 1985 at Nashville’s famed Bluebird Café’.  It is fair to say that this threesome – along with a few other gifted songwriters and performers – were essential to the Bluebird’s legendary acclaim.  Within a year of singing and playing together on that stage Mr. Schlitz and Mr. Knobloch conceived the idea of moving the performers from that stage to the middle of the floor with four chairs facing inward – In the Round, as it were, was born.  For most of those early years that fourth chair was occupied by friends and collaborators, Paul Overstreet and Craig Bickhardt.

When J. Fred introduced Don and Thom to Jellyroll Johnson a new era began.  Jellyroll, famed harmonica virtuoso, brought to this circle a lively, fresh and colorful brand of musicianship that is the perfect compliment to the bluesy, folkie and country flavored songs crafted by this trio.  This 4-way combination has now been together for over 10 years.

What you will experience at an ‘SKSJ show’ is 2-hours of non-stop, exquisite songwriting, superb singing and harmonies, spontaneous humor, wit and insight, remarkable songs you’ve never heard and a string of hits you will not believe.  Among the notable ‘hits’ you are likely to hear performed by those who wrote them are ‘When You Say Nothing at All,’ ‘The Gambler,’ ‘Forever and Ever Amen,’ ‘I Take My Chances,’ ‘If My Heart Had Wings,’ ‘Three Verses,’ ‘Mississippi,’ ‘16^th Avenue,’ ‘Long Line of Love,’ ‘I Fell in Love Again Last Night’ and ‘Love Will Turn You Around.’
